so i guess i should update this thread since ive been so busy and havent had time to.

a) i got the truck registered in my name finally, after several months of fighting with the state they gave me a title and registration, i will NEVER import another truck by myself, from now on im paying someone for the headache...however if anyone else is doing it feel free to ask any questions, im now very well versed in the laws.

b) i sent the truck up for its body work, its at cliffs automotive in bangor PA. The shop came highly reccomended from a few guys at OK4wd as a great place to have rust repair done. Should have the truck back in 4-6 weeks...the wait is gonna kill me

c) Still havent decided on what to do with the steering. The options are to:
1) go saginaw steering which gets rid of the stock linkage...the benifit is its stronger and a tighter steering
2) go with a PS box and keep the stock links, much easier to install, doesnt tighten up the steering, and will require 1/2" spacers on each front wheel.

so yea thats where the truck sits, i have the new front axle prepped to go in, learned today that aubrn is offereing its LSD for toyota axles now, so im hopefull the ected will come out for yota axles, as that is what i would love to throw in the rear axle. Still need to figure out brake lines on the front axle, but im just gonna worry about that after i swap in the new front axle...

so anyone want a low milage yota front axle...drum breaks...

Seems to me the way to go. Easy is the only plus (and a weak one at that) you listed for option 2 so I think you have already made up your mind.

the major issue is it requires cutting of the front cross member for installation, and it costs a little more, rather than being a drop in.

I prefer to do things right, once.

Prefer at least...

:D

I'd say as you're probably going to be stuck with the result a long long time, and its off the road anyway for now, just bite the bullet and get what will work best long term.

So the FJ came home today, i have to say these guys did INCREDIBLE work. Even with the extra month they had the truck, it was worth every cent i paid for it. The job they did is actually more seamless than the factory bodypanels (no dimples where the spot welds were). They were also nice enough to install new body mounts which was helpful considering the factory ones were rusted out. There was one small issue, the roof had to be taken off to replace the rear 1/4's, when they did that two sections (about 2ft on the drivers side, and 8-10" on the pass side) of the fiberglass delaminated from its steel rain gutter. The rivets must have rusted out, and the only thing holding it was the glue, which popped. Its still drivable, and the thule mounts will hold the two together untill i can decide what to do. I either will ditch the hard top for a full soft top or restore the hard top to use during the colder months and use a bikini top for the warmer months, or restore the hard top and just not use a softtop. Really dont know which way i want to go, sincei love the way the FJ looks with the hard top.

on to the pics, i know they are crappy the sun was setting and all i had was my phone..

looking good man :D

I'd vote for soft top all the time, only cause I know you have the Nissan for the cold months.

nice FJ though... look out for trail damage ;)

I'm thinking that as you don't wheel the Nissan anymore, and the look you LOVE is with the hardtop, restore the hardtop, or get another one on ebay, CL, etc.

:D

PS - Is it where its parked, or does the butt sit kind of low?
